Our approach to clinical safety
Parent Sense is used by parents at one of the most demanding times of their lives, often at three in the morning with a crying baby. We take the responsibility that comes with that seriously. This page explains who is accountable for clinical safety at Parent Sense, and how we manage it.
Who is responsible
Our Clinical Safety Officer is Meg Faure, an Occupational Therapist with 32 years of clinical experience in infant and child development, registered with the HCPC (registration number OT095738). Meg holds accredited Clinical Safety Officer training and is the principal clinical author of our content.
The Clinical Safety Officer is responsible for the clinical safety of the Parent Sense app and its features, and approves clinical risk decisions before any release. She is supported by our wider clinical team, including a paediatric dietitian and a paediatric clinical adviser, and reports to a named Accountable Director on our Board.
How we manage clinical risk
We operate a clinical risk management system aligned with DCB0129, the NHS England standard for clinical risk management in health IT. In practice this means:
- We identify and record the ways our app could foreseeably contribute to harm, in a hazard log maintained by our clinical and technical teams.
- We assess how likely each of those is, and how serious it would be, and put controls in place to reduce the risk.
- Our Clinical Safety Officer reviews and approves the clinical safety position before a release goes out, and reviews any change that could affect it.
- We keep our clinical content under review against current evidence and guidance, and update it when that guidance changes.
- We record and investigate clinical safety concerns raised by users, clinicians or our own team, and act on what we find.
What Parent Sense is, and what it is not
Parent Sense provides general information, routine guidance and record keeping to support parents. It does not diagnose, and it does not replace advice from a midwife, health visitor, nurse, dietitian or doctor. If you are worried about your child's health, or your own, please contact a healthcare professional. If you think it is an emergency, contact your local emergency services.
Raising a clinical safety concern
If you believe something in the app is unsafe, inaccurate or out of date, we want to know. Please contact us at clinicalsafety@parentsense.app. Concerns are reviewed by our clinical team, and anything with a potential safety impact is escalated to our Clinical Safety Officer.
