General FAQ's
Nurture@Home is a Parent Sense programme offering neonatal nurse coaching, feeding and routine guidance, and emotional support to parents during the transition home after NICU or in the early newborn period.
This benefit is available to eligible members as part of their Discovery Health benefits and is accessed through the Parent Sense app, email, or SMS.
What are the requirements to qualify for Nurture@Home?
You qualify if all of the following apply:
- Your baby had a stay of 7 or more consecutive days in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
- You or your partner were a Discovery Health Medical Scheme (DHMS) member in good standing at the time of birth
- Your baby is registered as a dependant on that DHMS membership
- You are on an eligible DHMS plan option (see below)
Which plan options don’t qualify?
Members on Keycare, Essential Smart, Essential Dynamic Smart, or Active Smart do not qualify for Nurture@Home, even if your baby met the NICU-stay requirement.
How long do I have to book my first session?
You need to start the programme and complete Session 1 within 60 days of your baby’s discharge from NICU. If you’re outside this window, don’t assume you’ve lost the benefit — contact us so we can look into your situation.
Can my partner use the sessions instead of me?
Yes. Either parent, or both together, can use the three sessions.
I have twins/triplets — do I get more sessions?
No, the benefit is per pregnancy, not per baby. You’ll receive 3 sessions in total, regardless of how many babies were in NICU.
After opening your Nurture@Home link or selecting Nurture@Home in the app, you can book your sessions by following the on-screen steps:
Tap to book your session
Choose a date and time that works for you
Enter your details and confirm your booking
All members follow the same booking steps once they reach this screen.
(See Part 2 in the visuals above for the booking steps.)
You have three Nurture@Home sessions available as part of your benefit.
Each session can be booked individually, allowing you to space them out based on your needs during the early days at home.
These three sessions are funded directly by Discovery Health at no cost to you — you should never be asked to pay for them.
During your Nurture@Home sessions, you’ll receive gentle, expert guidance from a qualified neonatal nurse, including support with:
Feeding and settling
Establishing routines
Emotional support for parents
Adjusting to life at home with your baby
Sessions are designed to meet you where you are and support you during this important transition.
