Join us for the Parent Sense Lunch & Learn, our monthly webinar series for professionals, as Meg Faure explores how understanding a child’s sensory personality transforms the way we support babies, toddlers and the families who care for them.

THE 4 SENSORY PERSONALITIES: Understanding every child’s unique way of responding to the world

No two babies respond to the world the same way. Some settle easily into any environment. Others need the world dialled right down before they can cope. In the nature-versus-nurture debate, occupational therapists bring a lens to ‘nature’: a baby’s temperament, rooted in how they process sensory information, shapes everything from sleep to feeding to development.

In this session, Meg Faure – occupational therapist and founder of Parent Sense, unpacks her framework of the four sensory personalities: the Settled Baby, the Social Butterfly, the Sensitive Baby and the Slow-to-Warm-Up Baby.

Drawing on decades of clinical experience and the research behind Your Sensory Baby, Meg shows how recognising a child’s innate sensory filter changes the advice we give, the environments we create and the confidence we build in parents.

Whether you work in paediatric health, early childhood development, supporting parents at work or parent coaching, you’ll leave with a practical lens for understanding the babies and toddlers in your care.

During this session we’ll explore:
  • The sensory basis of temperament, and why some children filter stimulation differently to others.
  • The four sensory personalities: Settled, Social Butterfly, Sensitive, and Slow-to-Warm-Up.
  • How each personality shows up differently in sleep, feeding and play.
  • Why “one size fits all” parenting advice fails, and how sensory personality explains it.
  • The risks of misreading a child’s signals when their sensory personality isn’t recognised.

Practical Application

You’ll leave with:

  • A clear framework for identifying a child’s sensory personality.
  • Practical strategies for adapting sleep, feeding and play recommendations to each personality type.
  • Greater confidence in reassuring parents that there is a reason behind their child’s behaviour.
  • Tools for spotting overstimulation and under-stimulation before they escalate.
  • Language to help parents understand and work with, rather than against, their child’s temperament.
